As an avid traveler, I know how much of a difference having access to information in your own language makes to your experience of a destination. Not only does it make the practical side of your visit easier, but it also allows you to fully understand what makes the destination so special. This is why my focus in all of my translation work is based around two core aspects: accuracy and culture. I ensure my translations are accurate by conducting extensive research about the destination I am writing about before I begin writing, whether that be through other texts or visual resources. When it comes to culture, I favour keeping as much of the original cultural identity of the text as possible without disturbing the naturalness of the translation. I favour adding short explanations of foreign concepts where possible over substituting these concepts for more familiar ones, thus allowing the reader to start discovering the rich cultural heritage of their destination potentially even before they leave home.
